Google Cloud Platform

Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a suite of cloud computing services offering over 150 products. I was part of a horizontal team at GCP responsible for establishing and maintaining design standards with the focus on higher level patterns within the second largest design system at Google. My responsibilities included creating, redesigning, and maintaining best practice design specifications, socializing updates with stakeholders, and consulting product teams through office hours.

My Design System contribution included redefining form type templates for a high-traffic specification page, supporting 400+ instances on GCP. I also spearheaded improvements to form-related features, including the development of enhanced help functionality component and standardized guidelines for a pre-form template. I was redesigning guidelines for patterns such as error states and empty states to accommodate the vastly complex use cases of both 1st party (1P) and 3rd party (3P) teams. This process included collaborating with product teams and analyzing various product team use cases to identify gaps in existing guidance, improving or entirely revamping specifications, and collaborating closely with engineering teams to establish reusable components. I also defined best practice guidelines for accessibility, ensuring compliance with Google’s high standards.
